As satisfying as the conclusion to Welcome to Sanditon was, we here at LeakyNews were left with a few questions we wanted answered. So we did what any good reporter would do– we called up the Sanditon Mayor’s Office, hoping to score an interview with Mayor Tom Parker.
Unfortunately, Mayor Parker was out speaking to Ed’s aunt about a new business venture (something about donkey’s-milk soaps and bath products, which are supposedly very good for the skin), but we were able to chat for a bit with his cousin, Sidney Parker, currently serving as Assistant to the Mayor of Sanditon. A transcript of the interview is below. Read on to hear about how Sanditon views the Domino beta test now that it’s over, some interesting hints about Pemberley Digital’s next venture, and if that mysterious auto-dialed call from Domino was really what it seemed!
Leaky News (LN): Now that the Domino beta test is over, how does the mayor’s office feel that it went?
Sidney Parker (SP): The mayor’s office feels that it was a thrilling experiment in technological partnership!
LN: No offense, but you sound like you’re quoting your cousin, Mayor Tom Parker.
Gigi Darcy’s announcement that she will be staying in Sanditon was met with general delight, a few job offers and a fresh round of match-making – a fitting end to a chaotic but ultimately heart-warming summer.
Echoing the sentiments of many, resident Isabelle Collins told Ms. Darcy: “I’m so glad you’re staying! Sanditon wouldn’t be the same without you.”
Sanditon Tours was quick to respond to her job search: “If you’re looking for something to do, come join us as one of our tour guides!” Not to be outdone, Sanditon Sea & Tea offered her a management position with free lunch and a 90% employee discount on swimwear.
Even the Sanditon Mafia expressed an interest in hiring Ms. Darcy, saying she had “many very useful talents.” (Related story: Con Artist ‘Taken Care Of’ by Pemberley Higher-Ups)
Meanwhile, sources close to the City Council reported that Mayor Parker’s cousin and temporary assistant Sidney Parker has already bumped into Ms. Darcy in town on several occasions – though judging from viewer reactions to Mr. Parker’s appearance in the last Domino video, she may have some competition on that front.
Ms. Darcy was widely praised for her decision to strike out on her own, and the town seemed to agree that with her life experiences, new-found self-confidence and the support of her family and friends, she will succeed in whatever she chooses to do.
The story of Annabell and Horace unfolded over the course of the Domino beta test, which played a role in getting them together – despite some of its famous “glitches” causing trouble for the couple.
In July, Horace became the new head OB/GYN at Sanditon Hospital, saving Sanditonians the indignity of giving birth to their children in Dolphinton. He and Annabell reconnected at a hospital banquet, and after a little denial on her part, they started dating.
Thanks to Domino and social media, Sanditon got a chance to see their romance blossom, from first dates at Sanditon Scoops to Horace’s proposal at the Sanditon County Fair. Their friends Erin and Kacie, both bridesmaids in the ceremony, supported the couple every step of the way.
Interested in running for public office? Can’t read or write Circular Gallifreyan? Never fear, the Sanditon Sun has you covered.
The futuristic alphabet, used by former mayor’s assistant Edward Denham for filing purposes, was inspired by the popular science fiction show “Doctor Who” and developed by lifelong fan Loren Sherman.
While the interlocking circles and lines can be daunting at first glance, the basics are available for study at Gallifreyan Academy, a handy online resource for “Doctor Who” devotees.
Words are composed by placing various shapes into a circle. They are read radially, counter-clockwise from the six o’clock position, with a series of base stems and modifiers to represent consonant and vowel combinations. The circular words are then grouped into a larger circle to form sentences.
